Rosneft, CNPC Pick Plant Site

Russian state-controlled Rosneft and China National Petroleum Corp. (CNPC) have reportedly picked a site for their planned 15 million ton/yr (300,000 b/d) refinery and petrochemical complex in the northern Chinese city of Tianjin. Chinese press reports say they have chosen a 5 sq km area in the Nangang industrial zone. The refinery will be jointly operated by the two firms under the 2007 agreement setting out plans to build the plant and integrate it with a 1 million ton/yr petrochemical complex. Rosneft declined to comment on the reports. A source at the company said the sides are still discussing the feasibility study, and nothing concrete has been agreed. Analysts say the Chinese are anxious to move ahead with the project.
