Japanese Discuss Nassiriyah

Executives from a consortium led by Japan's Nippon Oil met officials from the Iraqi Oil Ministry Sunday to iron out a deal to develop the Nassiriyah oil field in the south (IOD Nov.3,p1). Nippon and partners Inpex and plant en- gineering company JGC have been on the short list to develop Nassiriyah for months, but some financial aspects of the deal have held up a final accord. The Japanese group is expected to invest up to $8 billion via an engineering, procurement and construction contract to develop the field and build a power station.
