Iraq to Open Oil University in Basrah

Iraq aims to produce a new generation of oil technocrats to oversee its ambitious output plans by setting up a petroleum university in the southern oil hub of Basrah. Isolated for 30 years by wars and sanctions, Iraq has missed out on the cuttingedge technology and skills that are required to hoist output from 2.5 million barrels per day to its minimum 7 million b/d target. The huge boost will come from the country's giant southern oil fields, so Basrah is a fitting place to educate and train young Iraqis.
