On October 29, 2015, an arbitral tribunal constituted under Annex VII to the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) to decide a dispute between the Philippines and China issued its Award on Jurisdiction and Admissibility. The Tribunal found that it had jurisdiction to continue hearing the merits of the Philippines' claims against China, although it reserved certain jurisdictional objections for the merits phase and placed conditions on other jurisdictional findings.
