IAEA programmes and strategies for the integrated plant life management

I felt deep sorrow when I learned of the tragic accident of Myrddin Davies in March of this year. Acad. Myrddin Davies has technically contributed his expertise to the IAEA since the early 1980s, and in 1985 he became chairman of the Technical Working Group on Reliability of Reactor Pressure Components. Under his chairmanship, the Technical Working Group expanded and developed its horizons and became the Technical Working Group on Life Management of Nuclear Power Plants, covering all the broader issues pertaining to plant life management. This tragic accident occurred at the Technical Meeting (TM), on 'Corrosion, Fatigue and Other Time and Load Dependent Degradation Mechanism other that Irradiation', that was held from 11 to 13 March 2003 at the Hanover International Hotel located at Stretton, Warrington, in the United Kingdom. The TM was organized by the IAEA, Department of Nuclear Energy and hosted by Serco assurance, BNFL and the National Physical Laboratory. At that time, Myrddin Davies was the nominated chairman for the TM. The TM started in a positive manner with 42 experts from 7 countries in attendance.
