Semantic Computing has become a ubiquitous term that is perhaps unique in comparison to other fields of research. To this day, it remains a challenge to define as it involves so many applications among so many fields. While it has been commonly characterized as a general term over a subset of AI-based applications including natural language processing and machine learning, its focus has remained on the extraction of meaning from data. This has manifested itself in applications that classify, locate and index information as well as those which leverage information to higher abstractions. For this reason, it has been leveraged to support categories of problems that perhaps were not attempted prior.
