摘要

Historically, properly accomplished weld repair has been considered to have little or no effect on the mechanical and physical properties of castings. The purpose of this study was to either validate or refute this claim. Our results show that properly accomplished weld repair of properly made castings has essentially no effect on the static and dynamic tensile properties of E357-T6 sand castings. The study suggests that properly accomplished gas tungsten arc (GTA) welding may be appropriate for joining sand cast components to each other or attachment of wrought products (of appropriate alloy chemistry) to cast products. Additional testing will be necessary to validate this conjecture.
