Use of facial recognition software online continues to expand, raising privacy concerns and engendering lawsuits since compilation of databases of biometric data (facial geometry) can be used to individually identify persons. Suits filed against Facebook and Shutterfly, for examples, allege that their tag suggestion features, which utilize facial recognition technology, violate an Illinois law that protects biometric data of individuals.
