The World Cup championship was drawing to a close as I travelled back from London to Delhi, a short journey of 8h but in terms of cultural time there is a monumental dislocation between India and Europe despite the hype of Incredible India! The hot season (49H at its worst) is over, the air conditioners have finally given up, the monsoon has struck and oven-hot heat has given way to a wet tropical sweat; the rain is causing traffic chaos and breaking up newly laid roads-it is probably the wrong sort of rain. But back to the football-news of the final result between Spain and The Netherlands awaited me. It was not a great game but as I had money on Spain to win I was not disappointed. One of my few citation classics demonstrated a modest increased risk in hospital admissions for myocardial infarction following world cup penalty shoot-outs in 1998 but is refuted in this issue by Barone-Adesi et al .
