KNOWLEDGE LEVEL OF DAIRY FARMERS TOWARDS SELECTED ANIMAL HUSBANDRY PRACTICES IN TAMIL NADU

The present study was carried out to assess the knowledge level of dairy cattle farmers in villupuram district of Tamil Nadu. This study was conducted in 10 villages from 2 blocks of Villupuram district of Tamil Nadu by personally interviewing 100 dairy cattle farmers. Data were collected through face-to-face interview and was subjected to analysis. The results revealed that majority of the dairy cattle farmers possessed high level of knowledge about artificial insemination and feeding of green fodder where as medium level of knowledge was found among the respondents about practices of deworming and feeding of concentrates. This study clearly established that dairy farmers lagged behind with respect to their knowledge of dairy farming practices. Intensive training programmes, group discussions, demonstrations, tours, field visits etc were some of the techniques suggested to increase their knowledge level.
