摘要

Availability and efficient access are the most important factors affecting the performance of data intensive distributed applications. Unavailability problems and access latency may cause undesirable outcomes. To address these challenges, data replication is highly essential. Data replication means creating multiple copies of data and storing them in appropriate locations to reduce access latency, balance workload on the servers, increase availability etc. A number of replica placement algorithms exist for distributed environments which are either centralized or distributed. This paper reviews and compares some recent centralized and distributed replica placement algorithms.
