It's clear that by the 1980s the aluminum radiator was here to stay. NARSA was also thoroughly entrenched in the heat transfer industry and a valuable contributor not only technologically and professionally, but from a regulatory perspective as well. More and more cars were on the highways, but the American motorist had changed. In the Automotive Cooling Journal issues spanning 1978 to 1982, we see all of this documented and the response of the association and its members to it. The January 1978 issue reported that American motorists would spend a cumulative USD70 billion by 1986 for precision automotive servicing and related tools, and services according to market research firm Frost & Sullivan. People would hang onto their cars for much longer periods of time. The only problems Frost & Sullivan predicted for the future were a shortage of skilled mechanics and the "growing array of sophisticated electronic devices now being incorporated into late model automobiles."
