Conductive painting of plastics: Delivering value and flexibility - Portable electronics manufacturers must evaluate coating processes based on consistency, repeatability, economy, and the availability of applicators worldwide
CONDUCTIVE PAINT TECHNOLOGY HAS grown steadily in preference when conductive coatings are required on injection-molded plastic parts to solve EMC problems. This growth is particularly evident in the portable electronics market where there is a need for globally accessible processes that provide consistent, repeat-able quality; a low use cost; and a selection of regionally qualified applicators. This article reviews some of the major differences in the key conductive coating processes from a manufacturing perspective. Conductive paint, selective plating and vacuum metallization technologies are compared with regard to their ability to meet the needs of the global electronics marketplace.
