Fritless Glaze Compositions for Single Fast Fired Tiles

This study examines the feasibility of preparing ceramic glaze compositions with a new semi-processed borate raw material (patent pending W02007/148101) that contributes boron to the glaze composition without the need for fritting the batch in a conventional manner. The new raw material was used to formulate glaze compositions for ceramic tiles, which yielded fired glazes whose technical and aesthetic characteristics matched those of ceramic tile glazes produced with standard frit-containing glaze compositions used in in_dustrial practice. The study shows that ce_ramic glaze compositions can be formulated with tile new semi-processed borate raw material without using conventional frits.
