The AFL-CIO called on President Barack Obama to use this week's North American Leaders' Summit to pressure Mexico on human rights and labor rights issues, the latter of which Mexico is obligated to address under the Trans-Pacific Partnership. U.S. labor groups are watching Mexico to see how the nation develops and passes new laws meant to bring Mexico into compliance with TPP labor requirements - primarily the right of workers to unionize and the right of workers to ratify their union contracts.
