Database Supported Modelling: Basis for Simulation Supported Design of Organizational Structures

One of the main reasons why simulation is not accepted in practice as it could be, can be seen in the effort required for modelling. Thus, several concepts have been developed to reduce this effort by generating simulation models based, on data from various manufacturing information systems (e.g. PPC-Systems). However, there are no standardized data exchange formats for simulation models thus far and for this reason such a concept must be created a new for each application. Therefore, the ifab-Institute of Human and Industrial Engineering of the University of Karlsruhe has developed an nearly independent concept for tie generation of simulation models based, on existing data stored in manufacturing information systems. The essential aim of this concept is the effective usage of the simulation tools used by the ifab-Institute in practical application cases.
