The beginning of the 1990s heralded a new and dynamic era for the fused magnesia industry.New production capacities came on stream, quickly followed by other new players,expansions, and joint ventures. Now in the mid-i g9os, the market outlook for fused magnesiaremains buoyant, at least for refractory grade usage in the steel industry. Grades are morereadily available from China, prices are more competitive, and there are a number of potential new producers waiting on the sidelines. Most recently the electrical grade supply market has undergone a degree of consolidation which may continue into 1996. This article provides an update of the current supply and demand market for fused magnesia.
