Natron soda ash EIA completed

THE FIRST DRAFT of an Environmental Impact Assesment (EIA) commissioned in 2006 by Tata Chemicals (on behalf of the proponent, Lake Natron Resources Ltd) for the proposed development of the Lake Natron soda ash deposit, Tanzania, is hoped to settle the debate between the project developers and environmentalists. Tata Chemicals formed a joint venture with the Tanzanian government to set up a soda ash project in the south-eastern African country. The Lake Natron project will consolidate the Indian company's position as one of the three largest makers of the chemical globally.
