THE PENTAGNA GUIMARAES family, which owns 57 percent of Magnesita SA, has decided to evaluate strategies for the sale of the company, which has already attracted five "large groups" vying for position to snap up the magnesite, talc, and refractories producer. The main reason given for the sale, as reported in an "official communication" published on 11 July 2007 in Minas Gerais daily Estado de Minas and signed by the director for investor relations, Jose Tarcisio Guimaraes Guerra, was: "....the lack of financial resources to keep up with the reinvestments needed to maintain the competitiveness of the company in the global market."
