FCCU refractories

The accompanying panel outlines refractory usage in FCCU vessels. The major concerns for applications of refractories in FCCU are thermal conductivity, abrasion resistance, thermal shock resistance, density and strength, and of course, cost. Thermal conductivity is usually related to density and the type of base material used in products. In general, abrasion resistance improves with strength, especially hot strength, and density.Traditionally, a variety of refractories based on calcined flint clay, fused silica, alumino-zirconia-silica (AZS), and tabular alumina have been used in the FCCU vessels mentioned above.
