Huls fused MgO to Washington Mills & TSL

Following the announcement at the end of 1995 that Huls AG was to withdraw from the fused magnesia business {see IM February '96, p.14), the company has now sold its fused magnesia assets to Washington Mills Electro Minerals Inc., USA, and TSL Group PLC, UK With a production capacity of 15,000 tpa fused magnesia at its Niederkassel plant, near Troisdorf, Huls was the world's second largest producer of electrical grade fused magnesia. Reasons for the move to sell its fused magnesia business included the initiation of a strategic realignment programme. On 30 June 1996, fused magnesia production activities stopped. Earlier, on 10 June, the Dynamag product line, for ceramic and refractory uses, was sold to Washington Mills. This included customer orders, production technology, and brandnames.
