The world-wide producer and processor of calcium carbonate and talc products, Omya GmbH, has recently acquired IKO-Fill, a subsidiary of Marl, Germany based IKO-Erbsloeh GmbH, which is itself fully owned by Silver & Baryte Mining and Ores Co. SA (S&B). The move comes as S&B is absorbing IKO-Erbsloeh into its Bentonite Division (see World of Minerals, p. 11).IKO-Fill, in Neuss, near Dusseldorf was established in 1997. It specialises in the production of calcium carbonate fillers for the paint, varnish and plastics industries and is thought to have a capacity of some 70,000 tpa. IKO-Fill also supplies limestone fillers for chemical building products (binders, mortars), which require especially high quality materials. The company stresses the chemical purity (CaCO_3 >99.3 percent), brightness values (up to 95.5), and extremely low abrasion values of its products.
