Summer spells a drop in rates

The summer is not normally a good time for the bulk shipping market. Reduced northern hemisphere power demand, lower grain exports from the Plate and summer cutbacks in steel output, particularly in Europe, all tend to drive rates down.Over the last decade the BFI/BDI has been on average 170 points lower in July than in April, a difference of 12%.
