The current downturn in oil and gas coupled with the slowdown in mining has demonstrated the importance of diversification regardless of the industry in which a company operates. Branching out is something mining and processing firms have looked into to protect themselves should one or more segments underperform, and many companies that had not previously proliferated are certainly doing so now.
