Chinese flat glass demand to rise 8.6 percent

DEMAND FOR FLAT glass in China is expected to climb 8.6 percent per annum through 2011 to 2,200m. m~2. Measured in value, flat glass demand will expand 15 percent per annum to RMB117,500m.(15,886 million dollars.), driven by a shift in the mix toward higher value fabricated glass in many applications. This is one of the main demand trends for Asian glass raw material suppliers of limestone, silica sand, soda ash, feldspar, nepheline syenite, spodumene, and dolomite, as highlighted by Murray Lines, of Stratum Resources Ltd, Australia, in his presentation "Glass raw materials outlook for the Asia Pacific region" at the 7~(th) Chinese Industrial Minerals Conference, Dalian, 9-11 October 2007. The Chinese flat glass market is apparently expected to outpace growth in all other parts of the world, driven by healthy gains in building construction activity as industrialisation efforts continue and income levels rise. These latest figures are revealed in a new study from The Freedonia Group Inc., Cleveland, USA.
