Sakhalin Island bentonite

LOCATED ON THE border separating Japanese and Russian maritime territory, the Sakhalin Island bentonite deposit, is a resource with potential stocks of 1 8m. tonnes sodium and calcium bentonite. The deposit is separated from the Asian continent by a narrow strait of 6km width, and is 1 6km from the port of Poronaysk. The deposit's Russian owner, Base Investments Ltd, is aiming to mine and market Sakhalin's bentonite for Pacific Rim markets.
