Even in today's digital age the process of developing and processing film tape is an important business with tight delivery schedule. One company was experiencing unexpected bearing failures which were leading to lost production time as well as high maintenance costs. In a bid to resolve this issue, the company turned to NSK for advice, which resulted in a much improved life time for the bearings in question. The original bearing was a double row, self aligning ball bearing, which would normally be well suited to this application. However, in this particular case, there were high radial loads applied to the bearing during the developing process of the film tape. The resulting failure caused poor image quality in the finished product, leading it to be rejected.
