TO BE FRANK, Audi could have timed this one better. A huge SUV with wheel arch extensions, 20in rims and a mammoth 6.0-litre V12 engine is perhaps a little too 'conspicuous consumption' for these chastened times. The fact that it's a diesel makes it only slightly better; the frugal worthiness of a TDI badge is somewhat undone when prefaced by 'V12'. But still, a Q7 with 493bhp and 737lb ft is intriguing. What does that feel like in a 1.7m-high SUV? Silly - in the sense that you find yourself laughing out loud at the ridiculousness of something so heavy accelerating quite so quickly; 0-62mph in 5.5sec isn't far off the pace of a BMW M5.
