Yesterday, as this is written, we picked up our new Range Rover Sport from the company's gigantic Solihull works, home not only to the company's most luxurious 4x4s like this one, and the traditional Defender, but also soon to become the well spring of the new, all-aluminium Jaguar XE saloon. It was a helluva thing to do, just as you're looking at a brand new year. With a day or two to go to the Christmas shutdown, the place was a picture of organised pandemonium, everyone working flat out towards the blessed moment a few hours away. In such circumstances, it seemed almost wrong to be gazing down from the serenity of the Solihull visitors' centre (established about a year ago to link customers with their flagship Range Rovers), but such serenity is exactly what the place was built to convey, and it was conveying it pretty damned well.
