The 'mini that thinks it's an MPV

Suzuki's baby MPV may not be as practical as some rivals, but it's proof that the company is heading in the right direction. AS ATWENTY-SOMETHING male with no kids, I am, in demographic terms, not your average Suzuki Splash buyer. Quite the opposite, in fact. The Splash and its boxy, MPV-like brethren (think Honda Jazz, Renault Modus or Ford Fusion) are cars that tend to be bought by older couples or as a second car by young families. This is because these cars are practical, cheap to run and big on interior space, while keeping exterior dimensions to a minimum. And while the Splash is a tad smaller than its conceptual rivals - being nearer to a city car in size than a supermini - it nevertheless ticks the same boxes.
