Don't wait a decade for the F-type to depreciate; buy an old XK8 instead. There's a rumour going around that Jaguar has a launched a new sports car, so with that in mind, it might be worth taking a look at the company's last new sports car. Now, I would love to do something on the E-type, but they haven't been built since 1971, they cost a gazillion quid to buy and you'll worry every time you leave it at the local Park and Ride. No, what you want is the best quick Jag for a generation that isn't an XJS but is still reassuringly cheap and cheerful. That's right, let's all go and buy ourselves an XK8. For a start, unlike the new F-type, the XK8 looks voluptuous, if a little on the large and under-tyred side and with a strange rear overhang. Perhaps the best option, if you buy one, would be to play with the paintwork and modify the car with a bit of body kit. I reckon a feral cat is the way to go, with a mangy, scuffed paintjob, a louder exhaust and perhaps some of the weight stripped out.
