MAZDA OFFERS a wide variety of oil-burners in its latest 3, including two variants of its own 2.2-litre unit. But this motor, a PSA-sourced 1.6 diesel, has the potential to be the pick of the range. Why? Because, on paper at least, it offers a more effective blend of affordability, torque and fuel economy in a car that we rated pretty highly when we tried it on Spanish roads last year.
