Nissan luxury arm Infiniti is a new brand to the UK, but enthusiasts will be familiar with the marque; it has been successful in the US since 1989. Indeed, it will probably be these enthusiasts who opt into Infiniti during its launch period, because it currently only sells big-engined petrol cars. A diesel V6 inherited from Renault is on its way into the Infiniti range next year, but for now the 3.7-litre petrol V6 fitted to our EX test car is the only engine available in all of Infiniti's models, although a 5.0-litre V8 is also an option in the big FX SUV. The smaller EX37 is forecast to be the biggest-selling Infiniti in the UK. Its size, shape and price put it closest to cars such as the Audi Q5 and BMWX3, but Infiniti has tried to give the EX37 more focused performance and handling than any class rival. The distinctive coupe styling also differentiates it from more conventional 4×4s, but the way the EX drives will be key to its success.
