Impact of demonstration of technology package in sericulture extension and future extension strategies.

摘要

Demonstrations of new sericulture technologies have been conducted in Kolar district of Karnataka in five villages with 80 farmers during April 2001 to March 2005. Impact of the demonstration has been studied. Results indicated significant improvement in mulberry and cocoon yield after successive demonstrations. The improvement recorded in respect of mulberry yield ranged from 5.2 to 30.27% and that of cocoon yield from 66.36 to 102.8% in different phases of demonstration. The main factors contributed for the higher productivity after demonstration were (a) disinfection with recommended chemicals, (b) maintenance of chawki garden, (c) use of bed-disinfectants and (d) shoot rearing technology. The main constraints with the farmers in adopting the new technologies were (a) multiple cropping system and land allocation, (b) non-availability of irrigation and fertilizers, (c) labour non-availability, (d) assessment of mulberry leaf, (e) quality of mulberry leaf and (f) mulberry spacing.
