A STUDY ON PERCEPTION AND FORMULATION OF SYLLABUS PATTERN FOR VARIED CATEGORIES OF VISITORS TO CSRTI, MYSORE

Extension division of Central Sericultural Research and Training Institute of Mysore caters to the needs of the visitors along with transfer of technologies. Every year it receives thousands of visitors of varied type. A study was conducted to understand their perception for rendering service to them effectively. The results indicated that during the last five years, students arrived in large numbers (54.6 %) followed by farmers (34.7 %), trainees (5.4 %), north Indian tourists (4.3 %) and foreigners (1.0 Visitors were maximum from Kerala (82 %) followed by Maharashtra (62.8 %), Karnataka (53.9 %) and Tamil Nadu (42 %). It was observed that visitors preferred winter season (63 %) followed by rainy (60 %) and summer (49.4'%). Among the different sources of methodology used, museum was the most preferred (100 %) followed by practical demonstration (70 %), class room lecture (50 %), CD watching (50 %) and KIOSK (computerized sericulture information source) to (20.5 %). Based on the interest of the visitors, service was framed and imparted. Hence, this study has led to the preparation of curriculum for different types of visitors which may serve as a guide for the extension officers of the Institute.
