STUDIES ON INTERRELATION AMONG COCOON AND REELING CHARACTERISTICS

The reeling performance of cocoon lots are mainly influenced by genetic factors of race as well rearing environment. In the present study, the correlation between different reeling parameters and cocoon characteristics have been worked out with different cocoon samples of selected races sourced from different regions. The cocoon samples were tested for cocoon characteristics and then hot air dried. Further, the cocoons were reeled on Multiend reeling machine under identical conditions for studying the reeling performance. It was observed that the cocoon lots received from Salem area has shown comparatively better reeling performance. Finally, the interrelationship among forty eight cocoon lots of four races received from four different regions wereanalysed and found that there is a positive correlation among many reeling parameters and a negative correlation between filament denier and renditta.
