摘要

Marked decline in the translational processes in insects as age advances contributes significantly towards senescence and ultimately death. Keeping this in view, the present experiment was conducted to understand the relation between protein and adult life span of silkworm, Bombyx mori. The average adult lifespan of two multivoltine races, Pure Mysore and precocity, were analysed, where the former exhibited longest and the latter shortest adult duration. Protein profiling was carried out through SDS-PAGE utilizing virgin moths of both sexes on first day of moth emergence and one day before death of moths. Varietal differences in the protein profiles were observed from first day to the penultimate day. Based on the banding patterns of each race, presence or absence of specific protein bands were noticed with differential molecular weight. Statistical analysis was carried out for the same. The stress has been laid on the utilization of silkmoths for gerontological studies.
