Six Sigma is a quality methodology that can produce significant benefit to the foundries through customer-focused process improvement techniques. In addition to the rigorous methodology and the focus on data-driven decision making, Six Sigma methodology uses dedicated and part-time resources to achieve the operational and business objectives. In contrast to the ISO 9000, Six Sigma focuses on financial benefits to the foundries in addition to quality improvement. DMAIC and DMADV methodologies are used depending upon the nature of the projects selected. In this paper, the tools used in the Define Phase of the project are discussed.
