Fertiliser is the critical input in increasing agricultural production in the country. The fertiliser has to be moved from the plants/ports to the consuming areas at the right time, right place and in right quantity and quality. Towards this, efficient logistics consisting of transportation (rail, road and port handling), warehousing (CWC, SWC, Cooperatives and Private) and distribution channels is essential. The infrastructure facilities at each of logistics operations have to be understood and need to be addressed properly. In this paper, an attempt has been made to discuss the infrastructure requirement in the country to meet fertiliser demand at right time, right place and in right quantity / quality. Certain vital issues related to the subject have also been discussed facilitating better availability of fertilisers to the farmers.
