Management of tobacco caterpillar, Spodoptera litura Fabricius and grey weevil, Myllocerus undecimpustulatus Faust in soybean (Glycine max (L.) Merill).

Experiments were conducted during kharif 2003 and 2004, in Udaipur, Rajasthan, India, to develop an economic and eco-friendly schedule for managing tobacco caterpillar (Spodoptera litura) and grey weevil (Myllocerus undecimpustulatus) infesting soyabean. Spraying imidacloprid 200 SL at 125 ml/ha at 40 days after sowing followed by endosulfan 35 EC (0.07%) at 60 days after sowing (M₅) was the most effective in managing the grey weevil and tobacco caterpillar as well as in increasing the yield of soyabean. It was followed by seed treatment with imidacloprid 70 WS at 7 g/kg seed+spraying of acephate 75 WP (0.07%) at 60 days after sowing (M₁), soil treatment with carbofuran 3G at 25 kg/ha at the time of sowing+acephate 75 WP (0.07%) at 60 days after sowing (M₄) and seed treatment with imidacloprid 70 WS at 7 g/ha+neem seed oil 5% at 60 days after sowing (M₂). Two releases of Chrysoperla carnea at 40 and 60 days after sowing (M₆) was found least effective, as it recorded the lowest seed yield of soyabean in both years.
