A field experiment was conducted dwring 2007 and 2008 at the farm of Indian Agricttltural Research Institute CIARI), New Delhi to study the effect of preceding summer forage crops viz. pearlmillet, cowpea, pearlmillet + cowpea and fallow and phosphogypsmm-enriched urea (PGEU) levels viz. absolute control, 0, 2.5, 5 and 7.5% on growth parameters, yields and total Zn, Mn, Cu and Fe (g/ha) uptake in aromatic rice. Growth parameters at all the crop growth stages recorded significantly higher when aromatic rice was grown after the harvest of preceding summer forage cowpea compared to pearlmillet alone, pearlmillet + cowpea and summer fallow during both the years of experimentation except dry matter accumulation at all the growth stages during 2007 & 2008 and leaf area index at 30 DAT during 2008 which remained statistically on par with pearlmillet + cowpea but significantly superior to pearlmillet alone and fallow treatments. Application of various concentrations of PGEU had significant effect on all the growth parameters of aromatic rice. Significantly higher grain (5.33 and 5.55 t/ha) and straw (16.14 and 16.74 t/ha) of aromatic rice was recorded when it was grown after the harvest of preceding summer forage cowpea crop. Similarly, significantly higher grain, straw and biological yields were recorded with 7.5% PGEU. Various preceding summer forage crops had significant effect on micronutrients uptake viz. Zn, Mn, Cu and Fe total uptake in aromatic rice (grain + straw). The significantly higher total (grain + straw) Zn (1881.8 and 1951.3 g/ha), Mn (1181.4 and 1224.9 g/ha), Cu (769.3 and 769.2 g/ha) and Fe (7798.0 and 8048.4 g/ha) uptake were recorded with 7.5% PGEU compared to lower levels of PGEU in aromatic rice.
