DURING THE LAST THREE YEARS,THE country has been facing tight supply situation for fertilisers due to stagnant domestic production on one hand and spurt in demand on the other.Consumption of fertilisers increased by about 9.5%,and 10.6% during 2004-05 and 2005-06 respectively and is estimated to have increased by about 8.4% during 2006-07 while production of N and P increased only marginally during this period.
