Splitting of Nitrogen Dose Affects Yield and Net Returns in Wheat Sown on Different Dates

摘要

The experiment was conducted to study the effect of various timings of N application and date of sowing on the performance of wheat. The results showed that maximum spike length, number of spikelets per spike and number of grains per spike and net returns were recorded in timely sown crop and minimum in very late sown wheat. Delayed sowing resulted in significant decrease in test weight, number of effective and total tillers and consequently the grain yield. The maximum yield, yield attributes and net returns were obtained in foliar nitrogen application treatment. The application of nitrogen (150 kg N ha~(-1) in three splits [68 kg N at sowing + 75 kg N at 1st irrigation + 7 kg N (3% urea spray) at anthesis] proved best in terms of grain yield and economic net return.
