Words: A Trilogy

摘要

The use of the phrase "gold standard" is another overused phrase of the dental implant vocabulary. Who and under what circumstances, determined what the gold standard is for any aspect of our professional niche. Whether they are for actual procedures or products, these standards should be based upon, and so labeled in evidence-based manuscripts, and not merely accepted via common knowledge. For example, at 2 different aspects of the dental implant spectrum, what is the evidence-based support for the gold standard in bone substitutes and what is the gold standard for radiographic diagnostic support? These are but a couple of examples of the oftentimes unintended puffed-up phraseology inserted in the dental implant literature.
