The polarized optical absorption spectra of different, quaterthio-pliene single crystals are reported as measured hi the temperature range from 140 K to 7 K. The effect of static and dynamic disorder is discussed as deduced from the spectral features when comparing different samples in terms of the measured line-shape and linewidth of the absorption peaks, and the relative lineshift and intensity ratio between the first exciton transition and its first, vibronic replica.
