Vision promises perfect pizzas

A food manufacturer is using a vision solution to inspect its pizza products with the aim of improving quality and becoming more competitive within the Swedish food industry. To inspect the production of different varieties of pizzas, marketed under its Billy brand, Swedish food manufacturer, Gunnar Dafgard, has installed a Cognex vision solution. Every day 110,000 units of pan-pizza is manufactured and distributed frozen, to food services and retail outlets. The company installed its first vision solution five years ago. Since that time, the company has been moving from manual to automated inspection throughout its pizza bakery. The previous manual inspection was made under complicated circumstances, with random sampling making it difficult for the company to secure a systematic quality control of production on the pizza line. The automated vision-system, with In-Sight vision sensors, is able to inspect the position of the pizzas on the production line to ensure that the look, size and form of every pizza is correct.
