Challenges in Marine Education & Training - Road Forward

Pune Local Centre of the Institution organized the Twenty-ninth National Convention of Marine Engineers on the theme 'Challenges in Marine Education & Training - Road Forward' under the aegis the of Marine Engineering Division, IEI during November 20-21, 2015 at Tolani Maritime Institute, Pune. The Convention was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Ms Mahua Sarkar, Deputy Director General of Shipping, Ministry of Shipping, Govt of India. In her inaugural address, Ms Sarkar emphasized upon identification of skill requirement, monitoring the status of maritime education, development of new standards by statutory bodies for business learning, training of seafarers etc. She also spoke about significance of theoretical classes and practical training in laboratories and workshops in simulated environment. She felt that training should be need based, training methodologies be updated periodically, application of simulation and practical knowledge be enhanced and a blended solution of e-leaming and faculty coaching may serve the purpose.
