Most of the major poultrymeat producing companies in Asia are forecasting an expansion in output this year, but concerns over highly pathogenic avian influenza will definitely slow the overall rate of growth. Asia's importance in global egg productioncontinues to grow, with China way out ahead in terms of annual output. Table 1 shows poultrymeat output in Asian countries for the last five years. Over a third of the world's poultrymeat is produced in Asia, with 70 per cent coming from just one country - China.
