This combined report of the Belgian Rarities Committee (the French-speaking, CH, and Dutch-speaking, BAHC) deals with records of rare birds in Belgium from 1998 until 2003 (as well as a few earlier records that had not yet been assessed). All the records included here concern species that are subject to acceptance by the Belgian RCs in the entire country.This six-year period brought twelve new species to the Belgian list (Surf Scoter, Steppe Eagle, Lesser Sand-plover, White-tailed Lapwing, Long-billed Dowitcher, Forster's Tern, Lesser Short-toed Lark, Olive-backed Pipit, Red-flanked Bluetail, and Spectacled Warbler), as well as three subspecies (Black Brant, Atlantic Great Cormorant, and Eastern Black-eared Wheatear). Two orther species have been recorded for the first time since 1950, and therefore added to Category A on the list (Great Black-headed Gull and MacQueen's Bustard). The confirmed breeding of Baillon's Crake in Belgium in 1999 and 2000 was also exceptional.
