YOUNG RACER CONOR DALY SHARES MORE WITH THE NEW CADILLAC ATS-V THAN HE MIGHT REALIZE. CONOR DALY'S FIRST laps around the U.S. Grand Prix track in Austin, Texas, aren't what he once envisioned - strapped low in a Formula One car's carbon-fiber tub. Instead, Daly sits on the 2016 Cadillac ATS-V sedan's optional Recaro performance seat. Either way, the kid doesn't mess around. As he pulls from the Circuit of the Americas pits, Daly switches the ATS-V's Performance Traction Management to Mode 5, intended to make all but 99th-percentile drivers faster than they could be without electronic assistance. His much-older passenger, fortunate to have undertaken hot laps with Mario Andretti, Alex Zanardi and a couple dozen other tier-one professionals, has seen it before. Daly can't explain it - where his eyes go, what his butt and hands tell him - but he proceeds with an unearthly ability to assimilate, with processing speed rooted in his DNA and refined by years of steady track time - something most of us can't hope to achieve.
